Outreach - Felpham Sea Scouts

Tonight (26th September) the CCFC played host to the 1st Felpham Sea Scouts (West Sussex). The scouts, within an hour and half session, were up and running for their first encounters with the foil. The girls and the boys went away exhausted and smiling from the effort they put in, well done. Thank you for Frank and Kirsten for their efforts.

Richard Kruze

Details of the CCFC’s schools development scheme Mini-Fence®/Midi-Fence® school competition will be forthcoming (keep your eyes on our WWW site) but what we can announce is that winners of the competition will be offered the ‘star prize’ of visiting “London’s elite Olympic fencing training centre” and actually combating with the UK’s top fencing star Richard Kruse, Olympian and European Silver Medallist. An opportunity not to be missed!

Spirit FM

Steve Crossley was interviewed by Spirit FM Radio’s Theo Cronin on Tuesday the 23rd September about Chichester Community Fencing Club’s Schools Development Scheme and they also discussed the Sportsmanshipfirst initiative.

Outreach - Funtington School

Coaches Frank Scott and Steve Crossley were at Funtington Primary School (West Sussex) on the 17th September, promoting Chichester Community Fencing Club’s Schools Development Scheme and Sportsmanshipfirst. Frank, one of the club’s newly qualified and bursary funded coaches, was invaluable during the day.

Quote (Steve)

“We coached four classes of 30 children at a time.”

“…… the children seemed to really enjoy themselves. Teachers at the school said they thought the sessions were great and were particularly impressed with the Sportsmanshipfirst ethic.”

Steve reports that a school governor, having viewed the equipment, said she was going to encourage the school to sign up to the scheme. The school have asked for club promotional material.

Quote (Steve)

“I personally think that the day went very well indeed and I consider that this was in no doubt due in major part to the ‘Leon Paul Mini-Fence® system. This is the first time that we have been able to coach so many children in one hit, what a great concept Mini-Fence® is.”

Sussex Open

The Sussex Open is a Epee (4th October) and Foil (5th October) open competition held in Sussex over the first weekend in October each year (details and entry form here).  The competition has been running since 2000 as a replacement for the Portslade Jubilee International Cadet Foil which ran from 1976 to 1999.  The Sussex Open is becoming an important fixture in the national calendar and the club is encouraging our fencers to attend or participate. The venue is the Portslade Sportscentre (for map see here).

Contact us by e-mail or tell us at the club if you wish a) to attend or b) to participate. If participating it is better that you send off in advance your cheque and completed form (deadline 27th September) to the address given at the link above.  We will attempt organize transport leaving from Chichester College.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to our new coaches Frank Scott and Lee Banting who qualified at the beginning of July, this means that the club now had four fully qualified fencing coaches with two more in training. Lee and Frank qualified by taking part in CCFC’s Coach Bursary Scheme by which we offer to pay for coach education in return for a years service to the Club. Mini-Fence® Training Day

We are pleased to announce that, with the aid of Norman Randall (Director Coach Education and Management and Coach Development Project England Fencing) on the 3rd November ‘08 we will be running the first ever Mini-Fence® training day. This session will be aimed at giving all the teachers on our Schools Development Scheme the skills needed to get going with Mini-Fence® at their school along with, of course, the full support of Chichester Community Fencing Club. See our ‘Schools Development Scheme’ pages for more about the scheme and the short courses we will be putting on.
It is hoped that Barry Paul (Leon Paul and sponsor of Richard Kruze of Team GB) will also be there.
