Looking forward to seeing everyone back raring to go on the 5th September.
Lee and Frank At the KCC Open Ladies' Epee , Worthing Leisure Centre, Sunday, July 6th Ana won all her poules and finished up with a 15-14 Final after having to "work out" an awkward opponent, the lesson she had on Friday before the competition !! Well done.
As a club we thought it would be nice to give our resident american open winner an introduction, just in case you were wondering.
Anahit is an American student studying book conservation at West Dean College. Her greatest milestones in epee have have been placing third at the North American Cup tournament, twice. Her past coaches include Charles Simonian (Columbus, Ohio) and Tony Gillham (Milwaukee, Wisconsin). She is currently coached by both Lee Banting and Frank Scott at Chichester Community Fencing Club. We had two Epeeists in this years's Chichester Open - Anahit Campbell and Jethro Ireland.
Frank was there for coaching support and managed to stay for the pool stages (two rounds) but missed the DEs. Jethro was up against a strong field led by the British number one (Jon Willis) and came 39 out of 53, highly respectable given his age and experience. Ana, went on from her triumph at the Hampshire Open to win the Womens's epee, again with a strong field. We only hope that she did not end up with another snowglobe! Well done to both of them, not only for fencing well, but for displaying good sportsmanship and being a credit to our club. Congratulations to all who participated in the Hampshire Open 10-11 May 2014
Anahit Campbell (Women's Epee) 1/23 - our visiting American, resident Epee challenge and first Open winner Jo Speer (WomenFoil's) 8/16 - Well done Jo going out on against the number 2 seed, nice to meet your crowd from Plymouth Morys Ireland (Men's Epee) 33/54 - Morys shouldn't have fenced so heavy at Lansdowne the night before - got into his stride a little too late Jethro Ireland (Men's Epee) 42/54 - Nice performance Jethro who was in a tough starting poule If you wish to see some great fencing live streamed go here for the last few days of the competition.
Link. Thanks to the RN for hosting a great competition in Portsmouth. CCFC put up three teams (2x Epee, 1x Foil) and saw some club competition firsts. Special commendations to Sam in his sabre and Marcus in the foil team. All of our teams put up a highly commendable performance in all weapons. Thanks especially to Winchester foil A and B for their sportsmanship. Photos to follow.
